Padma Vibhushan awardee and legendary Pandavani singer Teejan Bai passed away at the age of 70 after illness.

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Renowned Pandavani singer and Padma Vibhushan awardee Teejan Bai passed away at the age of 70 after a prolonged illness. She breathed her last at AIIMS Raipur late on Saturday night, leaving the world of Indian folk music and culture in mourning.
Teejan Bai had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS Raipur since May 27 after her health deteriorated due to multiple ailments. Doctors said her condition worsened in the early hours of Saturday and despite all efforts, she could not be revived. Throughout her illustrious career, she received several prestigious honours including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Japan's Fukuoka Prize.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed grief over her demise describing her as a cultural icon who took the traditional art of Pandavani to audiences across India and the world. Celebrated for her powerful storytelling and unique performance style, Teejan Bai played a pivotal role in popularising the Mahabharata-based folk tradition and leaves behind an enduring legacy in Indian cultural history.
