Guwahati (The Uttam Hindu) – The sudden death of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg has shocked the entire nation. An investigation into his death is underway. His cousin, an officer in the Assam Police, has now been arrested in the case.

The case is being investigated by the Assam Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Crime Investigation Department (CID). The SIT arrested Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sandipan Garg on Wednesday in connection with the case. According to official sources, Sandipan Garg appeared before the SIT for questioning at the CID headquarters in Guwahati. The arrest occurred shortly thereafter. He is expected to be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court on Wednesday.

The late singer's cousin, Sandipan Garg, was reportedly on the boat in Singapore where Zubeen Garg died. Sandipan had previously stated on social media that he had fully cooperated with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) during their lengthy interrogation this week.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has already ordered a transparent and speedy investigation into the case. The SIT had already arrested four people before Sandipan Garg's arrest. On October 1, the team arrested Zubeen Garg's manager, Siddharth Sarma, and event organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, who organized the concert in Singapore. Both have been charged with culpable homicide. Subsequently, two of Zubeen Garg's bandmates—musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and singer Amritprabha Mahanta—were detained and remanded to 14 days of police custody for further questioning.

Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, one of Zubeen Garg's band members, reportedly alleged that the singer was poisoned by his manager, Siddharth Sarma, and Shyamkanu Mahanta. Meanwhile, Zubeen Garg's wife raised several questions about his death in an interview. She questioned why Zubeen's health wasn't taken care of even though his manager was present. He was exhausted from his previous tour, yet he was forced to go scuba diving.
