Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): Aam Aadmi Party's National Media In-charge Anurag Dhanda on Thursday put the BJP government in the dock over the drinking water crisis in Haryana, citing facts and government data. He said that the BJP government has been in power in Haryana for more than 11 years, but even today a large population of the state is forced to drink dirty, contaminated, and life-threatening water. This is not just a failure, but a proven government deception of 11 years.

Anurag Dhanda said that even today, water is not potable in more than 3500 villages of Haryana. In many districts, the amount of nitrate, fluoride, arsenic, and uranium in the water has been found to be many times higher than the prescribed standards. The presence of arsenic in Sonipat, fluoride in South Haryana, and nitrate and uranium in several districts raises questions about the entire government system. He said that according to the standards of the World Health Organization and the Government of India, the safe limit of TDS in drinking water should be 200-300 milligrams per liter, while in many cities and villages of Haryana, people are being supplied water with TDS levels of 1000 to 2000. This water slowly makes the body sick and poses a risk of blood pressure, kidney stones, serious stomach diseases, weak bones, and even cancer.

Anurag Dhanda said that the BJP government claims to have spent crores of rupees under the Amrit Yojana and thousands of crores under the Jal Jeevan Mission, but the ground reality is quite the opposite. These schemes have also fallen prey to corruption. Even after spending ₹90 crore in areas like Charkhi Dadri and Badhra, approximately 100,000 people are still without adequate water. In Hisar, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Bhiwani, Sonipat, and Ambala, 50 to 60-year-old pipelines are still in use, running over open sewers and directly supplying contaminated water to people's homes. The situation is so dire in Rewari that there have been reports of contaminated water being released directly from the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).

He stated that while the Jal Jeevan Mission claims to provide tap water to every household, government surveys themselves reveal that in many districts, people are not even receiving the minimum daily requirement of 40 liters of water per person. In some areas, coverage is only half, and in others, it's less than one-third. This clearly indicates that the schemes exist only on paper and are a complete failure on the ground. In short, the plans are complete on paper, but the public is suffering on the ground.

Anurag Dhanda said that this question should be directly asked of Chief Minister Nayab Singh: What exactly has the BJP government done in over 11 years? Even when the government is aware that water samples are failing, there is no regular chlorination, no acceleration in pipeline replacement, and no strict action against the responsible officials. Even after people died from contaminated water in Madhya Pradesh, the Haryana BJP government remains in a deep slumber. Is the BJP government waiting for a major tragedy to occur?

He said that the BJP's 11-year rule is proving to be poisonous for the people of Haryana. If, after such a long time in power, people still don't have access to clean drinking water, it is the biggest proof of the government's complete failure.

Anurag Dhanda warned that if pure, safe, and standard-compliant drinking water is not provided immediately to every city and village in Haryana, the Aam Aadmi Party will launch a statewide movement with the support of the public. The Aam Aadmi Party will fight with all its might to protect the health and lives of the people of Haryana.
