
Rohtak(The Uttam Hindu): The 25th edition of the world's largest international theatre festival, Bharat Rang Mahotsav (Bharangam), will be held at Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLCSUPVA) from February 9 to 12. Teams from India and abroad will present nationally and internationally acclaimed theatre performances in various styles and forms at the festival, which will be held in the mini auditorium of the FTV department at DLCSUPVA. The festival is being organized by the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi, in collaboration with DLCSUPVA.
On Wednesday, the poster for the 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav was launched in a packed hall at the DLCSUPVA guest house. Present on the occasion were DLCSUPVA Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya, Registrar Dr. Gunjan Malik Manocha, Bharangam coordinator and Senior Acting Expert from NSD Professor Suman Vaidya, MD of LPS Bossard Rajesh Jain, Mahesh TP, Keshav, Dr. Ajay Kaushik from DLCSUPVA, and others.
DLCSUPVA Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya informed that on February 9, Pragya Arts Theatre Group, Delhi, will present 'Umeed – Manushya Zinda Hai'. The play is written by Sachchidanand Joshi and directed by Lakshmi Rawat. On February 10, Manch Rangmanch, Amritsar, Punjab, will stage 'Sandal Bar'. The play is written by Harjeet Singh and directed by Rahul Maliwal. On February 11, the Department of Performance and Fine Arts, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, will present 'Umar Ka Parwana'. The play is written by Vijaydan Detha and directed by Adish Kumar Verma. He informed that on February 12, the Apoorva Theatre Group from Sri Lanka will present 'Colombo Hathe Thorana', adding an international dimension to the festival. The play is written and directed by Chamika Hathlabaththuva.
In his message to theatre enthusiasts in Haryana, Dr. Amit Arya, Vice-Chancellor of DLC Supwa, said that recent developments have given Rohtak and Haryana's theatre and cultural landscape a special place in India's cultural circuit. Hosting 'Bharangam' in Rohtak is a meaningful endeavor for the overall well-being of the art form in India and a moment of pride for the city. DLC Supwa is making a significant contribution to the state's art and culture. Dr. Amit Arya said that the international theatre festival 'Bharangam' has left its cultural mark across the country. Performances were held simultaneously in Nagaon, Ranchi, Raipur, Gangtok, Paradip, Varanasi, Bengaluru, Patna, Itanagar, Kolkata, Imphal, Sakhalin, and Dimapur, decentralizing theatre and bringing world-class plays to a wider audience of art lovers. This festival is being celebrated in 41 locations across all states, with DLC Supwa in Rohtak being the only participant from Haryana.
Professor Suman Vaidya, Coordinator of 'Bharangam' and Senior Acting Expert from NSD, said that the 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav, organized by the National School of Drama (NSD), is the world's largest international theatre festival. The 25th edition of 'Bharangam' will run for 25 days, from January 27 to February 20, featuring over 277 performances in 228 Indian and international languages, including many underrepresented languages. The festival is a blend of national, international, and regional productions, with participation from theatre groups from 9 countries and every state and union territory. Professor Suman Vaidya said that while celebrating India's theatrical diversity, 'Bharangam' features performances by children's groups, tribal communities, and artists from underprivileged sections of society, which demonstrates NSD's commitment to inclusivity and the universalization of theatre.
