58-Year-Old Dies, 19-Year-Old Student Drowns, 48-Year-Old Stabbed in Kangra

Kangra (The Uttam Hindu): A day of misfortune struck Kangra, home to the revered Bajreshwari Devi Temple, as three people lost their lives in separate incidents across the district. According to Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjeev Kumar of Kangra Police, the incidents included two drownings and a fatal stabbing.

In the first incident, the body of 58-year-old Prakash Chand, a driver from Ansoli village, was recovered from Manuni Khadd. He had been missing for two days. Police found Aluminium Phosphide (Salphos) tablets near the body, which were seized for investigation. Forensic experts examined the scene, and the body was sent for post-mortem.


In a separate mishap, 19-year-old Sagar Kumar from Jogipur village drowned while swimming in Banner Khadd with a group of local youths. After a 45-minute combined search by police, fire department personnel, and locals, his body was recovered. Sagar, the only child of his parents and a computer course student, was taken to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda for post-mortem and later handed over to his family.

A third incident occurred in Ludrath village, Ustard Panchayat, where 48-year-old Ashok Kumar, a daily-wage painter, was stabbed to death by his 28-year-old nephew, Sukhvinder, over an old land dispute. Ashok was attacked outside his home while on his way to work and was declared dead at the hospital. Police have arrested the accused and are conducting further investigation.


SHO Sanjeev Kumar confirmed that authorities are examining all three cases thoroughly to determine the circumstances and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
