Mandi (The Uttam Hindu): A cloudburst caused massive destruction in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi city on Monday night. The drain along the Jail Road turned ferocious, killing 2 people in the area and filling several houses with debris. According to information, the debris of the drain suddenly entered the nearby houses at around 3 o'clock in the night. At that time 15 people sleeping on the lower floors got trapped in the debris. The police reached the spot as soon as the information was received and by 4 o'clock in the morning everyone was safely evacuated.


2 killed, 25 vehicles buried in cloudburst in Himachal's Mandi; Chandigarh-Manali, Mandi-Jogindernagar four lane closed : More than 25 vehicles were buried under debris in various areas of Mandi city. Apart from this, due to heavy rains and debris, Chandigarh-Manali four lane has been closed at many places. The situation remains serious especially near 4 mile, 9 mile and Dwada. The four lane has been completely destroyed in Dwada. Similarly, Mandi-Jogindernagar four lane is also blocked due to landslide near Lawandi Bridge. Continuous rain since 1 am has also hampered road restoration efforts.


The Suketi Khad flowing through the middle of Mandi city has also overflowed. Its water and debris entered many houses adjacent to the khad, due to which people have suffered heavy losses. Relief and rescue work is going on by the administration. Local administration and NDRF teams are deployed in the affected areas and the situation is being constantly monitored. The Meteorological Department has also issued a heavy rain alert for the next 24 hours.
