Shimla (The Uttam Hindu): Congress MLA Anuradha Rana on Thursday raised concerns in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly over the shortage of LPG cylinders in the state, linking the situation to global uncertainties arising from the ongoing US–Israel–Iran conflict.

Concern over supply in remote regions

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Rana highlighted that people across the state—especially in remote and tribal areas like Lahaul-Spiti—are facing confusion and anxiety due to the lack of clarity on LPG supply.

She said that fears of prolonged shortages have led to panic booking of cylinders, while there has been no clear communication from the Centre on how long the situation may persist.

Impact on households and businesses

The MLA stressed that the issue is not limited to domestic consumers but is also affecting businesses. Hospitality units, particularly in tourism-dependent areas, are facing difficulties due to limited availability of commercial LPG cylinders.

She also pointed out that farmers are concerned about the availability of fuel and fertilizers, warning that agricultural activities could be impacted if the situation continues.

Call for timely action

While refraining from directly commenting on international conflict, Rana emphasized that its impact is clearly being felt at the ground level. She urged both the state and central governments to take timely decisions and implement measures to ease public distress.

Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and expressed hope that the state government would take note and issue a statement soon.
