Himachal Relief: Govt to Pay ₹5000 Monthly Rent to Disaster-Affected Families

Shimla (The Uttam Hindu): Heavy rains and landslides have caused losses of more than Rs 700 crore in Himachal Pradesh. CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the government will give Rs 5000 monthly rent to the disaster affected families. Families living in neighbours' houses or any other place by paying rent will get this amount. Along with this, the local administration will also provide food items to the affected families.

CM Sukhu said that the damage caused by the disaster has been discussed with the country's Home Minister Amit Shah. The Union Home Minister has assured all possible help, today the central team is also coming to Himachal Pradesh to assess the damage. Important decisions have been taken after discussions with Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, Deputy Speaker Vinay Kumar and other MLAs. All the cabinet colleagues are assessing the damage by holding review meetings of their respective departments. CM Sukhu said that the rain has caused heavy damage to roads, electricity and water schemes. So far 69 deaths have occurred due to the disaster, 37 people are missing, more than 100 are injured. At present 280 roads are closed, electricity service at 332 places and water supply at 784 places are disrupted. The Himachal Pradesh government will provide all possible help to the disaster affected. He said that the incident of so many cloudbursts at once is worrying and it is being studied. CM Sukhu hit back at Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur. He said that Jairam Thakur is lying. CM said that he spoke to the Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur yesterday and the officers are also talking to the Leader of Opposition. CM Sukhu said that Jairam Thakur should not bake political bread and the Leader of Opposition should stay among the people instead of holding a press conference in Mandi. He said that politics should not be done in a disaster. CM Sukhu also took a dig at Kangana Ranaut and said that Kangana Ranaut should come here soon after talking to Jairam Thakur and should not do politics in a disaster.
