Mountain Flood Alert: Chamoli–Chamba Reeling, Badrinath Highway Closed

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Monsoon rains are continuing from plains to mountains. Farmers and common people in plains may be happy with the rain, but rain has become a disaster in hilly areas. Especially in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, rain has started showing its fierce form.
It has been raining continuously since late Sunday night in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Heavy rain has affected normal life. Link roads have been blocked due to debris at many places and people are facing great difficulties in commuting. In view of the seriousness of the situation, the Chamoli district administration has declared a holiday in schools.
At the same time, a huge amount of debris has fallen on the Badrinath highway between Nandprayag and Karnaprayag, due to which the highway has been blocked. In view of safety, the administration has stopped vehicles at safe places. The work of removing the debris is going on, but it is being difficult due to continuous rain.
It is raining continuously in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. Due to this, the water level of rivers and streams is increasing rapidly, due to which there is a danger of floods and other accidents.
Chamba SDM Priyanshu Khati has appealed to the people not to go near rivers and streams unnecessarily and follow the guidelines issued by the administration. He said that the administration is fully alert to deal with any emergency, but alertness of the general public is also very important.
SDM Chamba Priyanshu Khati said, "Everyone knows that this is the monsoon season and it is raining continuously during this time. We have given many instructions to the administrative officials. The officials have been told to see that people do not go near the ravine. Instructions have also been given to stop those who make settlements around the ravine."
This warning from the administration has come at a time when incidents of cloudburst and waterlogging have been reported in many parts of the district recently. Taking lessons from these incidents, the district administration does not want to be negligent in any way.
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in both Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Heavy rains are expected in the hilly areas for the next few days. The administration and disaster management teams are active.
