Planning a Trip to Mussoorie? Entry Now Requires Mandatory Registration

Dehradun (The Uttam Hindu): The Uttarakhand government has taken a big step to deal with the problem of increasing crowd and traffic jam in the queen of hills, Mussoorie. The state tourism department has made online registration mandatory for all tourists visiting Mussoorie. This new rule has come into effect from July 30. The main objective of this step is to control the number of tourists and assess the carrying capacity of the hill station.
The decision comes after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered the state government in May to start registering tourists at the hill station and submit data regularly. District Tourism Officer Brijendra Pandey said the number of tourists visiting Mussoorie has almost doubled between 2022 and 2024, necessitating the implementation of this rule.
Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been installed at the main entry points of Mussoorie - Kimari, Kempty Falls and Kuthal Gate. These cameras will record the number plates of vehicles entering the city, which will help in traffic management.
Uttarakhand tourism secretary Dheeraj Garbyal said, "This registration system will let us know how many tourists are present in Mussoorie at a given time. This will help us collect data to accurately assess Mussoorie's carrying capacity."
For tourists: Before coming to Mussoorie, tourists have to register themselves by visiting the registrationtouristcare.uk.gov.in portal. The process is very simple, in which one has to enter the Aadhar card number, vehicle (two wheeler or four wheeler) details and the name of their city.
For hotels: All the hotel, guest house and homestay operators in Mussoorie will also have to first register themselves on this portal. After this, it will be mandatory for them to register the guests staying at their place at the time of check-in.
However, officials have clarified that this rule has been kept flexible in the initial phase so that tourists and businessmen can get accustomed to the new system. This step will provide real-time data of the number of tourists in the city, which will make it easier to make future plans.
