Imran Khan “missing” in Pakistan? Sisters unable to meet him for 21 days as jail‑health rumors spark outrage

Islamabad (The Uttam Hindu): The mystery surrounding the safety and health of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is deepening. Various rumors are circulating in the country that Imran Khan, who is lodged in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail, is not well. Worryingly, his three sisters and lawyers have not been allowed to meet him for the past 21 days. Despite explicit permission from the court, the jail administration has prohibited the meetings, leading to widespread anger among his family and supporters. Imran's sisters allege that the administration is not providing any official information about their brother's whereabouts and actual health, raising fears of the worst.
Imran Khan's sister, Naureen, has launched a campaign against the Inspector General of Police of Punjab province in this matter. She has filed a formal complaint with the Inspector General regarding the "brutal attack" by police on peaceful protesters outside Adiala Jail. The sisters say they have not received any news of their brother's well-being and that the administration is deliberately keeping them in the dark. The lack of contact even after three weeks has sparked a political uproar in Pakistan, and anger among PTI supporters is skyrocketing.
It is worth noting that cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has been imprisoned in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail since August 2023. He was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on charges of alleged corruption in the Al-Qadir Trust case. He is accused of accepting 60 acres of land from real estate tycoon Malik Riaz Hussain in the name of the trust, along with his wife Bushra Beevi, resulting in a loss of crores of rupees to the government treasury.
In January 2025, the court delivered a landmark verdict in this case, sentencing Imran Khan to 14 years in prison and his wife Bushra Bibi to seven years. The former Prime Minister is also facing several other serious charges. The ongoing secrecy surrounding his health and location has sparked a new controversy in Pakistan's volatile political landscape.
