India Successfully Tests Agni-Prime Missile from Rail-Based Launcher for the First Time

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India on Wednesday successfully conducted the first-ever test of its new-generation Agni-Prime missile from a rail-based mobile launcher. The missile, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has a strike range of up to 2,000 kilometres.
The test was carried out under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command with support from various range instrumentation systems. These included radars, telemetry and electro-optical tracking systems that closely monitored the missile’s flight path and performance. All mission objectives were achieved during the launch.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and the Armed Forces on the achievement, calling it a milestone that places India among a select group of nations with the capability to launch long-range missiles from rail-based platforms. He said the successful trial demonstrated the reliability and advanced design of the missile system.
The Agni-Prime is a canisterised, solid-fuel missile that can be deployed quickly and launched from both road and rail-based platforms. Lighter and more efficient than its predecessors, it represents the next generation of India’s Agni missile series.
With this test, India has enhanced its strategic deterrence capabilities and improved the flexibility of its missile deployment. Officials said the success underlines the nation’s growing self-reliance in advanced defence technologies and marks a significant step forward in strengthening national security.
