New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 75 on Wednesday. He was born on September 17, 1950. He has served as Prime Minister for the past 11 years. During his tenure, he has launched numerous schemes to transform the lives of ordinary citizens, including the PM Jan Dhan Yojana and free medical treatment plans.

PM Jan Dhan Yojana: The PM Jan Dhan Yojana was launched on August 28, 2014, to connect every person in the country to the banking system. Under this scheme, zero-balance accounts are opened and a RuPay debit card is provided. Account holders also receive an overdraft facility of up to ₹10,000. To date, 563.8 million accounts have been opened under the PM Jan Dhan Yojana.

PM Road Safety Insurance Scheme: This scheme was launched by the central government on May 9, 2015. Under this scheme, the government provides insurance up to ₹2 lakh to people between the ages of 18 and 70. In the case of partial disability, coverage is up to ₹1 lakh.

PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana: This scheme was launched during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first term on May 9, 2015. It provides life insurance cover of ₹2 lakh to individuals between the ages of 18 and 50.

PM Awas Yojana: With the aim of providing permanent housing to everyone in the country, the Modi government launched the PM Awas Yojana on June 25, 2015. Given the success of the scheme, the government extended it until 2029.

Atal Pension Yojana: With the aim of enhancing social security for citizens, the government launched the Atal Pension Yojana on May 9, 2015. Its objective was to bring people in the unorganized sector into the pension sphere. Under this scheme, any citizen between the ages of 18 and 40 can open a pension account and, by making regular contributions, receive a regular monthly pension ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 after the age of 60.

PM Ujjwala Yojana: To provide relief to poor women in the country from the smoke of stoves, the Modi government launched the PM Ujjwala Yojana on May 1, 2016. Under this scheme, the government provides free gas connections and subsidized LPG cylinders to poor families. As of July 1, 2025, approximately 10.33 crore Ujjwala connections have been provided across the country.

Ayushman Bharat Yojana: The government launched the Ayushman Bharat Yojana on September 23, 2018, to provide free medical treatment to poor people in the country. Under this scheme, any poor person can receive treatment worth up to ₹5 lakh. On September 11, 2024, the scheme was expanded to cover everyone aged 70 and over, regardless of their income.

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana: To provide direct financial assistance to small and marginal farmers in the country, the Modi government launched the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana on February 24, 2019. Under this scheme, the government provides farmers with an annual assistance of ₹6,000 in three separate installments.

PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana: To provide food to poor people in the country, the government launched the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana on March 26, 2020. Under this scheme, 800 million people in the country are given 5 kg of free food grains every month.

PM Vishwakarma Yojana: To provide better opportunities to artisans and craftspeople in the country, the Modi government launched the PM Vishwakarma Yojana on September 17, 2023. Under this scheme, the government has disbursed 4.7 lakh loans worth ₹41,188 crore to artisans and craftspeople.

PM Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme: The government launched this scheme on February 15, 2024, with the aim of providing free electricity to the people of the country. Under this scheme, the government provides a subsidy of up to ₹78,000 for installing solar panels.
