Kedarnath witnesses record footfall of 16.56 lakh devotees, temple to close soon

Dehradun (The Uttam Hindu): Uttarakhand 's Chardham Yatra is setting a record this year. Devotees' enthusiasm, especially at Kedarnath, is steadily increasing. According to the latest figures, as of Wednesday, approximately 16.56 lakh devotees have visited Baba Kedarnath, with two weeks remaining before the temple's doors close. On Wednesday alone, more than 5,600 pilgrims performed puja at the shrine.
A record 16.56 lakh pilgrims arrived at Kedarnath this year, the doors will close on this day; 47 lakh people performed the Chardham Yatra. : The doors of the temple will be closed on 23 October on the occasion of Bhai Dooj. Last year in 2024, 16.52 lakh pilgrims had reached Kedarnath during the entire season, which means this time a new record has already been made. The remaining Dhams of Chardham Yatra - Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri - are also seeing a significant increase in the number of pilgrims this time. The doors of Badrinath will close on 25 November at 2:56 pm.
According to the State Emergency Operations Center, approximately 4.73 million pilgrims have undertaken the Chardham Yatra from May 4th to the evening of October 7th. This number is significantly higher than in previous years. The Chardham Yatra began on April 30th with the opening of the doors of the Gangotri and Yamunotri temples. Subsequently, the doors of Kedarnath were opened on May 2nd and Badrinath on May 4th, prompting a surge of pilgrims to the mountains.
