New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday leveled a serious allegation against the Congress party. He claimed that Congress MPs behaved rudely with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Rijiju stated that he was present at the scene when the incident occurred.
He said that the opposition openly violates the Speaker's instructions inside the House and then accuses him of discriminating against them. The Union Minister also criticized the opposition for repeatedly violating parliamentary rules and advised them to follow established rules and norms even when presenting a no-confidence motion against the Speaker.
Speaking to reporters in Parliament, Kiren Rijiju said, "Indecent behavior and abuse were committed in the Lok Sabha Speaker's chamber. Then, the Speaker's ruling was also disregarded. Rahul Gandhi says he doesn't need anyone's permission to speak in the House. He will speak as he pleases. It is my right to speak. Everything is on record."
He said that no one can speak in the House unless they receive permission from the Speaker. Any member of the House, whether an MP or the Prime Minister, speaks only with the Speaker's permission, but parliamentary rules have no meaning for the Leader of the Opposition. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju further stated that at least 20-25 Congress MPs entered the Lok Sabha Speaker's chamber and misbehaved with him. He was also present there. The Speaker is a very mild-mannered person, otherwise he could have taken stricter action. Several senior Congress leaders, including KC Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were also present inside when the Speaker was being abused, and they were inciting them to fight.
