Bhilwara (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic and shocking incident has come to light from Gangapur town in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan, where four people, including three women, lost their lives after allegedly consuming acid mistaking it for liquor. The victims had gone to work at a wedding function and secretly brought bottles of liquid fuel used for heating food, assuming it was alcohol.

According to information, a wedding ceremony was organised on February 9 and 10 in Aloli village under the Gangapur police station area. The deceased had taken a contract to clean utensils at the function. After the event, they reportedly brought home bottles containing liquid fuel used for reheating food.

Late Thursday night, the group consumed the liquid, believing it to be liquor. Within a short time, their health deteriorated rapidly. Family members rushed them to Gangapur hospital, where doctors declared three people dead on arrival. One man, who was in critical condition, was referred to the district hospital, where he also died during treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Ratan, son of Masariya Kanjar, resident of Madhopur, and Sushila Devi, Jamni Devi, wife of Shankar Kanjar, and Badami Devi Kanjar. After receiving information about the incident, senior district officials reached the spot and reviewed the situation. Police have kept all four bodies in the mortuary of the government hospital, and post-mortem examinations will be conducted before handing them over to the families.

Bhilwara Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh Yadav said that preliminary investigation suggests the victims consumed the liquid fuel brought from the wedding, mistaking it for liquor. The matter is being investigated from all angles, including where the fuel was purchased and for what purpose it was being used. Following the incident, the police administration and excise department are on alert, while the families of the deceased are in deep mourning.
