Dehradun (The Uttam Hindu): A major piece of good news has emerged for devotees eagerly waiting for the pilgrimage to Lord Shiva’s sacred abode Adi Kailash in Uttarakhand. If the weather remains favourable, the Adi Kailash Yatra for this year is expected to begin from May 1. According to administrative preparations, the process of issuing the required “Inner Line Permit” for the pilgrimage may start from the last week of April.

Last year, more than 30,000 devotees visited the holy shrine and offered prayers, and this year the number of pilgrims is expected to increase significantly.

Vyas valley remains closed due to snowfall

Adi Kailash is located in the scenic yet remote Vyas Valley in the Dharchula area of the border district Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand. Due to heavy snowfall in this high-altitude region from November to March, the pilgrimage remains completely suspended during the winter season for safety reasons.

With the snow now melting, the administration has once again prepared to resume this challenging yet spiritually significant journey.

Entry not allowed without ‘Inner Line Permit’

For security reasons, the Adi Kailash Yatra is considered highly sensitive. Every pilgrim must obtain an “Inner Line Permit” to travel beyond Chhiyalekh in the Vyas Valley. Without this permit, no one is allowed to proceed further.

This special permit is issued by the local tehsil administration only after verifying the necessary documents of the pilgrims to ensure safety and prevent any untoward incidents during the journey.

District administration to issue official notification soon

The administration appears fully prepared to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the pilgrimage. Pithoragarh District Magistrate Ashish Bhatgain informed that all basic preparations related to the yatra have already begun.

Concerned departments have been instructed regarding accommodation for pilgrims, medical facilities, and route safety. According to the District Magistrate, the administration will soon issue a detailed official notification related to the pilgrimage, which will include complete guidelines about the travel dates and permit process.
