New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) - Notorious underworld don Abu Salem, convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case and serving a life sentence in Nashik Central Jail, has requested emergency parole. Salem has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking permission to visit his ancestral village in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh.

Citing his brother's death, Salem stated in his petition that his elder brother, Abu Hakim Ansari, died after a prolonged illness on November 14, 2025. According to Salem, he considered his brother like a father and now seeks parole to perform the 40th-day religious rituals, conduct Quran recitations, recite prayers at the graveyard, and meet with the bereaved family.

The petition also mentioned that when Salem's brother's health deteriorated, he had requested the jail authorities to expedite the process of regular parole so that he could meet him while he was alive, but permission was not granted then.

The debate over parole has intensified. It's worth noting that Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim recently came out of jail on parole. He is serving sentences for rape and murder. These cases have once again raised questions about the parole system granted to those convicted of serious crimes.
