New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The identification process for the victims of the June 12 Ahmedabad plane crash is progressing rapidly. According to officials, DNA testing has confirmed the identity of 247 victims, and 232 bodies have already been handed over to their respective families.

The tragic crash occurred when a flight bound for London plunged into a hostel complex in Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad, just minutes after take-off. A total of 270 people died in the incident, including 241 onboard passengers and hostel residents (students and staff). Only one passenger survived, and is currently undergoing treatment.

Dr. Rakesh Joshi, Medical Superintendent at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, stated that the deceased include 187 Indian nationals, 52 British, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian. Among the Indian victims are people from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Diu, and Nagaland. Dr. Joshi further added that in eight cases, the DNA samples provided by family members did not match the remains. Authorities are now collecting samples from other close relatives. “We prioritize collecting samples from the father, son, or daughter. If not available, we use siblings' DNA for matching,” he said.
