Srinagar (The Uttam Hindu): The annual Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 3 this year and continue till August 28 coinciding with Raksha Bandhan. The pilgrimage will last for 57 days. According to officials the Pratham Puja will be performed on June 29 on the occasion of the Jyeshtha full moon marking the ceremonial start of preparations for the yatra.

As per the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board registration for the pilgrimage will open from April 15. Devotees are advised to complete their registration in advance as the process usually closes a few days before the scheduled travel dates. The Amarnath Cave holds deep religious significance in Hindu belief where it is said that Lord Shiva revealed the secret of immortality to Goddess Parvati.

Every year lakhs of devotees undertake this कठिन pilgrimage to seek blessings despite challenging terrain and weather conditions. A large turnout is expected this year as well. In comparison last year the yatra also began on July 3 but lasted for 38 days ending on August 9.
