Amid Indigo crisis, Railways steps in with 116 extra coaches and special trains across India

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): From Tuesday until today, the large number of flight cancellations by IndiGo has caused major inconvenience to passengers. To ease the situation, Indian Railways has stepped in and announced additional coaches as well as special trains. According to the information, 116 extra coaches have been added to 37 trains across the country to meet the rising passenger demand. These additional coaches will help operate more than 114 extra trips.

Southern Railway adds the highest number of extra coaches

Southern Railway has attached extra coaches to 18 trains, increasing passenger capacity on key routes. Chair car and sleeper coaches are being added on high-demand routes. These arrangements will come into effect from December 6, 2025, improving travel convenience in the southern region.

Northern and Western Railway also increase capacity

Northern Railway has added 3AC and chair car coaches to eight trains, increasing seat availability in its corridor. Western Railway has also added 3AC and 2AC coaches to more than four high-demand trains. These additions will also be effective from December 6, 2025.

Four special trains announced

Along with the extra coaches, Indian Railways has also announced four special trains:

• Gorakhpur–Anand Vihar Terminal–Gorakhpur Special (05591/05592): Will operate four trips between December 7 and 9, 2025.

• New Delhi–Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan–New Delhi Vande Bharat Special (02439/02440): Scheduled for December 6, 2025.

• New Delhi–Mumbai Central Superfast Special (04002/04001): Will run on December 6 and 7, 2025.

• Hazrat Nizamuddin–Thiruvananthapuram Central Superfast Special (04080): One-way service on December 6, 2025.
