New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar has been acquitted by a Delhi court in a case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, in which he was accused of inciting mob violence in Janakpuri and Vikaspuri.

Special Judge Digvijay Singh delivered a brief oral verdict acquitting Sajjan Kumar. A copy of the verdict is awaited. After concluding the hearing in the case in December last year, the court had reserved its verdict for January 22.

In February 2015, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed two FIRs against Kumar based on complaints related to violence in Delhi's Janakpuri and Vikaspuri areas during the riots. One FIR related to the violence in Janakpuri, where Sohan Singh and his son-in-law, Avtar Singh, were killed on November 1, 1984. The second FIR was filed in the case of Gurbachan Singh, who was allegedly burned alive in Vikaspuri on November 2, 1984.
