Army tank sinks in Indira Gandhi Canal during military exercise, one soldier killed

Rajasthan (The Uttam Hindu): A major accident occurred in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, during a military training exercise when an Indian Army tank sank in the Indira Gandhi Canal, resulting in the death of one soldier.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning during a drill in which soldiers were being trained to cross the canal using tanks. Two soldiers were inside the tank at the time. As the tank reached the middle of the canal, it began sinking rapidly. One soldier managed to escape, but the second soldier became trapped inside. After several hours of rescue operations, his body was recovered.
Police, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Civil Defence teams, reached the spot immediately after receiving information and assisted in retrieving the body. Officials stated that the post-mortem will be conducted on Wednesday. They confirmed that this was a routine training exercise involving armoured vehicles practising canal crossing when the tank got stuck and submerged. Of the two soldiers inside, one survived while the other lost his life.
