Assam polls: BJP releases first list of 88 candidates, Himanta to contest from Jalukbari
BJP announces first list for Assam polls, naming 88 candidates including CM Himanta Biswa Sarma from Jalukbari.

Guwahati (The Uttam Hindu): The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its first list of 88 candidates for the Assam Assembly elections. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will contest from the Jalukbari seat. The party has also given a ticket to Pradyut Bordoloi, who recently left the Congress and joined the BJP.
Several senior ministers have been included in the list. Ajanta Neog will contest again from Golaghat, while Ranjit Kumar Das has been fielded from Bhawanipur-Sorbhog. Pijush Hazarika will contest from Jagiroad (SC), Ashok Singhal from Dhekiajuli, Ranoj Pegu from Dhemaji (ST), Bimal Bora from Tingkhong, and Sanjay Kishan from Makum. Senior leader Chandra Mohan Patwari has been nominated from Tihu.
For key urban constituencies, Bordoloi will contest from Dispur, Diplu Ranjan Sarma from New Guwahati, and Vijay Kumar Gupta from Guwahati Central. The party has also focused on strongholds in Upper Assam such as Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Digboi, Doom Dooma, and Margherita, along with several seats in Central and Lower Assam including Rangia, Nalbari, Berhampur and Nagaon.
In tribal and reserved constituencies, candidates have been fielded in seats like Boko-Chaygaon, Tamulpur, Dhemaji, Majuli, Bokajan, and Diphu. The list was finalized at a meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee chaired by Narendra Modi, with participation from Amit Shah and other senior leaders.
