Aizawl (The Uttam Hindu): The Indian Army continues its crackdown on drug trafficking along the India-Myanmar border. An Assam Rifles unit under the Spear Corps has seized over 34 kg of methamphetamine tablets (drugs) estimated to be worth approximately ₹102.65 crore.

The Spear Corps of the Indian Army shared a post on the social media platform X on Friday detailing the operation. According to the Spear Corps of the Indian Army, the Assam Rifles carried out the operation in the Jote area of ​​Champhai district in Mizoram.

In a post on X, Spear Corps Indian Army wrote, "Assam Rifles under Spear Corps seized 34.218 kg of Methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 102.65 crore (approx) at Champhai (Jote), Mizoram on 18 Sep 2025. The contraband has been handed over to Excise and Narcotics Department Champhai for further investigation." Based on specific intelligence, Assam Rifles team intercepted the suspect who was carrying the consignment. On being challenged, he abandoned the consignment and fled into the jungle. The drugs were recovered after a thorough search.

Earlier, on September 8, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police conducted joint operations in Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Chandel, Thoubal, Kakching, Imphal West and Imphal East districts. These operations resulted in the arrest of 11 militants and the seizure of five weapons, opium worth ₹69 crore, 690 liters of spurious liquor and other war materials.

Additionally, on September 3, armed forces busted a major drug racket operating in Manipur. This drug syndicate operated across the border and was carrying out this illegal trade by hiding dangerous drugs underground in Manipur. The armed forces foiled the syndicate's plans and seized narcotics worth approximately ₹7 crore (approximately ₹7 crore) in Manipur. According to the Assam Rifles, this operation was carried out near the India-Myanmar border.
