Baba Mahakal fulfills every wish, divine darshan of ‘Sakaar’ form in Bhasma Aarti
Thousands of devotees gather at Ujjain’s Mahakal temple for Bhasma Aarti; witness divine ‘Sakaar’ form and sacred rituals on Chaitra Panchami.

Ujjain (The Uttam Hindu): On Monday, the Panchami tithi of Shukla Paksha in the Chaitra month, a huge crowd of devotees gathered at the temple of Baba Mahakal in Ujjain, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The entire temple परिसर echoed with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.”
Devotees started lining up from late Sunday night to get a glimpse of Baba. As per tradition, the temple doors were opened at 4 am to awaken Baba Mahakal. Early in the morning, many devotees participated in the sacred Bhasma Aarti and witnessed the divine rituals.
This Aarti is considered one of the most special and sacred traditions of the Mahakal temple. Devotees offered prayers with deep faith and attentively observed the rituals. The Aarti is performed by the Mahanirvani Akhara, where Baba is believed to manifest from a formless (Nirakar) to a visible (Sakaar) form for his devotees.
The temple doors open between 3:30 am and 4:00 am, after which rituals begin in the sanctum. Baba Mahakal was bathed with Panchamrit, a mixture of milk, curd, ghee, sugar, honey, and fruit juices. This was followed by the grand Bhasma Aarti, during which sacred ash was offered and the Aarti was performed.
After the Aarti, Baba was adorned beautifully. The deity was decorated with sandalwood, a crescent symbol on the forehead, a new crown, and floral garlands. Devotees were overwhelmed witnessing the divine adornment. Later, the Kapoor Aarti was performed and offerings (bhog) were presented.
Each day, Baba Mahakal is adorned in a unique style. Devotees present during this auspicious occasion experienced a deeply spiritual and divine atmosphere. The temple resonated with chants throughout, creating a truly sacred environment. The rituals, accompanied by Vedic chants, continued for nearly two hours.
