Mathura/Vrindavan (The Uttam Hindu): The holy day of Dhanteras witnessed a historic event for Mathura and Vrindavan. The 160-year-old treasury (basement) of the world-famous Banke Bihari Temple was opened after a long wait of 54 years. The last time this treasury was opened was in 1971, after which it had been closed. Devotees are extremely curious about this treasure, as many important secrets related to it are expected to be revealed today.

The entire process has been initiated under the supervision of a high-powered committee formed on the orders of the Supreme Court. Providing more details on the opening of the treasury, ADM Mathura, Pankaj Kumar Verma, said, "The doors of the temple treasury will be opened today. All necessary arrangements have been made, and for security reasons, only authorized personnel are allowed inside the premises."

According to reports, the opening of the treasury began around 1:30 p.m. amid the lighting of lamps and chanting of mantras. The proceedings were halted at 4 p.m. as the temple doors opened for public viewing.

The team managed to break the lock on the first gate, but failed to open the second. Despite their best efforts, the second gate remained unopened, preventing further progress.

So far, officials have recovered only one empty box containing jewelry. Additionally, a Chandika umbrella weighing between 2 and 20 grams has been found.

It is said that this mysterious room containing the treasure is located right next to the temple's sanctum sanctorum. While the first day's operations are complete, the main mystery of the treasure remains unsolved. Now everyone awaits the moment when the second gate will open and the secrets of this 160-year-old treasure will be revealed to the world.
