Bengaluru(The Uttam Hindu): Authorities in Bengaluru have taken action in response to the disturbing trend of filming women in public places without their consent. Gurudeep Singh, a 26-year-old man, was arrested for allegedly filming women in well-known neighbourhoods like Church Street and Koramangala without getting their permission or knowledge and then sharing the footage online.

The issue came to light when a woman, a student in Bengaluru, discovered a video of herself on a social media page that claimed to showcase "street scenes" from these areas. She alleged that the video was shot in a highly inappropriate manner, without her consent and despite her request for its removal, no action was taken.

Following the video's circulation, the woman began receiving vulgar messages from strangers. She took to Instagram to raise awareness, posting a video that highlighted the serious breach of consent. She emphasized that being in a public place or having a public Instagram profile does not equate to permission to be filmed or shared online.

The social media account in question reportedly had over 10,000 followers and featured multiple videos of women who appeared either startled or completely unaware they were being filmed. The woman tagged the Bengaluru City Police and Cybercrime accounts in her post, seeking action.

The police have taken swift action, arresting the 26-year-old man and highlighting the importance of consent and privacy in the digital age.
