BJP Leader Accused of Killing Wife Over Thar SUV Demand; Police Stop Secret Cremation

Bharatpur (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking case of alleged dowry murder has surfaced from the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. A woman died under suspicious circumstances in Ganesh Colony of the Sewar police station area, after which her family accused the in-laws of killing her. The victim’s husband, Akash, who earlier served as district general secretary of BJP Yuva Morcha and his family have been booked based on the complaint of the woman’s father.

Harassment Over Demand for a “Thar Jeep”

The victim Priyanka’s father, Omprakash, a resident of Luhasa village in Nadbai police station area, informed police that his daughter married Akash on 24 November 2018. He said the wedding was conducted lavishly, with expenses amounting to around ₹20 lakh, yet the in-laws were still dissatisfied.

According to the complaint, Priyanka was harassed for dowry from the beginning of her marriage. Omprakash alleged that Akash and his family repeatedly demanded a Mahindra Thar SUV and subjected Priyanka to continuous mental and physical harassment.

Cremation Was Being Conducted Secretly

Omprakash stated that he received a phone call on Sunday informing him of his daughter’s death. He also learned that the in-laws were preparing to cremate her quietly without informing her family.

He immediately alerted the police control room. Acting on the information, Sewar police reached the spot and stopped the cremation.

Police Took Custody of the Body

Sewar Station House Officer Satish Chand said they received information about a woman’s suspicious death and an attempt to conduct her cremation in haste. The police intervened, took possession of the body, and sent it to the district hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

The FSL team was also called to the scene to collect evidence. Priyanka’s family claims she was murdered because the dowry demand was not fulfilled. Police are awaiting the post-mortem report and investigating the case from all angles.
