BJP's Bihar triumph pushes MLA strength to record 1,654, highest since emergency

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): With its landslide victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has set a new national record. The party's total number of MLAs nationwide now stands at 1,654, the highest in its history.
BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh shared this information on social media on Monday. He claimed that this is not only the highest number of MLAs achieved by the BJP, but also by any single political party since the Emergency of 1975.
BL Santosh wrote in his social media post, "With the landslide victory in Bihar, BJP India has recorded the highest number of MLAs in its history, and this is also the largest number of MLAs by a single party since the Emergency". According to the data shared by Santosh, the number of BJP MLAs has seen a tremendous increase over the last decade.
Data shows that from 2014 to 2025, the BJP increased its number of MLAs across the country by over 600. The recent victory in Bihar played a key role in pushing this figure past 1,650.
