Blast at Nowgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir, 9 killed, 30 injured; body parts scattered 300 meters away : According to officials, the explosion was so powerful that some human body parts were found up to 300 feet away. The condition of many injured remains critical and teams are searching for people trapped in the collapsed parts. The process of sealing 360 kg of ammonium nitrate stored inside the police station was underway when the accident occurred due to alleged wrong handling. A magistrate was also present during this time. It is also being speculated that an IED was being fitted in a seized vehicle parked in the premises. It is estimated that the initial blast was caused by the same IED, after which the ammonium nitrate caused a bigger explosion.
Security forces have cordoned off the entire area following the incident. Dog squads and teams of experts are investigating the remains of explosive material. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labru visited the hospital to meet with the injured.
This is the same 360 kg of ammonium nitrate that was seized from Dr. Mujhmil Ganai's rented house in Faridabad. Eight suspects have been arrested so far in this case. Investigations have revealed links to Maulvi Irfan Ahmed and individuals associated with Haryana's Al-Falah University, where two doctors were detained and a large quantity of IED-making materials was recovered.
During the same operation, agencies also seized 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate from two rooms in Faridabad, reportedly linked to a doctor from Pulwama. These findings indicate a large Jaish-e-Mohammed network.
DGP Nalin Prabhat conducted a comprehensive security review across the Union Territory on Friday evening. All security units have been instructed to maintain high alert for the next few days. Earlier this week, at least 13 people were killed in a car bomb explosion near Delhi's Red Fort.
