Budget session of Parliament begins, President Murmu highlights nation’s achievements in joint sitting

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday addressed the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament, marking the beginning of the Budget Session. In her address, the President highlighted the country’s key achievements and presented a vision for India’s future.
She said it gave her immense pleasure to address Parliament at the start of the session. The past year, she noted, will be remembered as a period of rapid progress and a celebration of India’s rich heritage. Referring to the completion of 150 years of Vande Mataram, the President paid tribute to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and congratulated Members of Parliament for the special discussion held on the subject.
Legacy of great leaders inspires new generation
President Murmu recalled the contributions of great national icons and important historical milestones. She said the country observed the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda with deep reverence.
She added that celebrations marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel further strengthened the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. The birth anniversary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika also helped unite the nation through music and cultural harmony.
The President emphasized that remembering the contributions of past leaders inspires the younger generation and accelerates the country’s journey towards a Viksit Bharat.
India enters the second phase of the century
Outlining the future roadmap, President Murmu said that with the year 2026, India has entered the second phase of this century. She stated that the first 25 years of the century have been marked by major successes, proud achievements, and valuable experiences.
Referring to the work done over the last 10–11 years, she said India has strengthened its foundations across all sectors. Expressing confidence, the President said the coming year would serve as a strong base for India’s continued journey towards becoming a developed nation.
