Bulldozer action after Chomu violence, illegal constructions of stone pelters demolished; action also taken against 20 illegal slaughterhouses

Jaipur/Chomu (The Uttam Hindu): After the recent communal violence and stone-pelting on police in Chomu town of Jaipur district, the Rajasthan administration has adopted a strict stance. Nearly a week after the incident, the administration has launched a bulldozer drive against those involved in the unrest. In the presence of heavy police deployment, the municipal council carried out demolition of illegal constructions and slaughterhouses.
Notice period over, action begins
The administration had pasted notices on the houses of 24 identified accused involved in the violence and stone-pelting. These notices sought explanations and legal documents related to alleged illegal constructions, giving a three-day deadline that ended on December 31.
As no satisfactory reply or valid documents were submitted by the accused, the administration initiated action today. Using bulldozers, authorities demolished 20 illegal slaughterhouses and four other illegal structures in Chomu’s Pathan Colony. A large police force was deployed at the site to prevent any untoward incident.
110 detained, 19 arrested
Police officials informed that around 110 people were detained in connection with the violence. Out of them, 19 have been formally arrested. During interrogation, the names of 15 more suspects surfaced. They are currently absconding and search operations are underway.
What was the incident?
The dispute began over the installation of a railing outside a mosque in Chomu. Initially, there was an understanding between the police and locals to remove stones. However, soon after the stones were cleared, some people started installing a railing at the spot. When the police objected, a mob from a particular community began stone-pelting.
In the clash, six police personnel were injured and had to be hospitalized. The situation worsened to the extent that police used tear gas shells to disperse the crowd, and internet services in the town were suspended. The situation is currently under control, and the administration continues its crackdown on illegal activities.
