Modi Cabinet Condemns Emergency, Approves Pune Metro Expansion and Key Schemes

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): An important cabinet meeting was held today on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A historic resolution was passed in this meeting and strong opposition was expressed to the Emergency on its 50th anniversary. Apart from this, the cabinet has also approved three important proposals including the metro expansion project in Pune.

After the meeting, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed about these important decisions in a press conference. He informed that the Cabinet has approved the expansion of Pune Metro Line 2, which will cost around Rs 3626 crore. This project will further improve the connectivity of Pune city.

Additionally, the Cabinet has decided to allocate a huge amount of Rs 5940 crore for the Jharia Coalfield Rehabilitation Project. This move will play a vital role in the rehabilitation of families facing problems of fire and land subsidence in the Jharia area.

In another important decision, Rs 111.5 crore has been approved for setting up an International Potato Centre in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The establishment of this centre will help in increasing the productivity of potato and sweet potato and increase the income of farmers.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav also informed that the Cabinet has recently congratulated Shubhanshu Shukla on his successful space mission. Prime Minister Modi himself informed the Cabinet about the success of this mission, after hearing which all the ministers expressed their happiness with applause. PM Modi called this occasion a big achievement for the country.

A resolution was also passed in the meeting on the completion of 50 years of Emergency. The resolution said that the Union Cabinet remembers and honours the sacrifice of countless individuals who bravely opposed the Emergency and the attempt to destroy the spirit of the Indian Constitution. The resolution also said that 2025 marks the completion of 50 years of 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas', which was a dark chapter in India's history. The Cabinet reiterated its commitment to protect the democratic values ​​of the country and called upon the youth to take inspiration from those who opposed dictatorial tendencies.

The Union Cabinet also approved the second phase of the Pune Metro Rail Project, which will extend from Vanaj to Chandni Chowk (Corridor 2A) and Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi (Corridor 2B). These 12.75 km elevated corridors will have 13 stations and are targeted to be completed in four years. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 3626.24 crore, which will be shared by the Centre and Maharashtra governments as well as external agencies.

The amendment to the Jharia Master Plan has also got the Cabinet's approval, under which families affected by fire and land subsidence will be rehabilitated at a cost of Rs 5,940.47 crore.

Approval for setting up of International Potato Centre in Agra will boost research and development in agriculture sector, which will greatly benefit farmers.
