CBSE to introduce new online platform to assess students' understanding and skills, moving away from rote learning

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a significant change in the education and examination system. In line with the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the board aims to end the age-old culture of rote learning in schools. To this end, a new online platform will soon be launched, aimed at assessing students' depth of understanding of subjects and their application in real life. The primary objective of this initiative is to prepare students for 21st-century skills.
Under this new CBSE plan, exams will be considered an integral part of the learning process, rather than just a year-end fear. Based on the recommendations of the NEP 2020, this new platform will conduct a special assessment called SAFAL (Structured Assessment for Learning Analysis) for all students in grades 3, 5, and 8. SAFAL aims to assess children's basic understanding and critical thinking abilities. This will help schools identify areas where students need additional attention.
The National Education Policy 2020 clearly states that the assessment system should support students' holistic development, rather than simply test their memorization. The CBSE is working with this vision in mind. The board has already introduced a competency-based examination framework for grades 6 to 10, emphasizing core subjects like science, mathematics, and English. This new online platform will further strengthen these reforms.
