New Chapter Unfolds: Home Ministry Shifts to New Office After 90 Years, Historic North Block to Become Museum

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Under the ambitious Central Vista project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government, the form of the power center of the capital Delhi has started changing. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has started vacating the North Block located in Raisina Hills, which was the center of power for about 90 years. The ministry is now shifting to the newly constructed building 'CCS-3' on Kartavya Path near India Gate.
According to sources, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and several joint and additional secretary level officers have already shifted to the new CCS-3 building along with their staff. The process of shifting of the remaining officers and employees will also be completed in the next few days. However, the office of Union Home Minister Amit Shah has not been shifted yet, but its process is also going on. About 350 rooms have been allotted to the Home Ministry in the new building.
This magnificent building of red sandstone designed by British architect Herbert Baker is now going to become a part of history. Under the Central Vista plan, once the North Block and South Block are completely vacated, they will be converted into a huge museum named 'Yug Yugin Bharat'. It will be one of the largest museums in the world with 950 rooms spread over 1.55 lakh square meters.
Under the Central Vista project, a Central Secretariat complex of 10 office buildings is to be built on Karva Chauth for all the ministries, of which the first three buildings have been completed. Apart from the Home Ministry, the new CCS-3 building will also house offices of several other important departments including the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Petroleum, Ministry of Rural Development and Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
