Guwahati (Assam) (The Uttam Hindu): When India stopped the water of Indus river after the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan also threatened India. Pakistan said that China can also stop the water of Brahmaputra river, which will create a situation of drought in the north-eastern states of India. Now Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has given a befitting reply to Pakistan.

Pakistan believes that India depends on the water of Brahmaputra river coming from China. However, Himanta Biswa Sarma has completely rejected these claims of the neighboring country.

According to Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Brahmaputra river brings only 30-35 percent of its water from China. The Brahmaputra river gets this water from melting Himalayan glaciers and rain. The remaining 65-70 percent of the river's water comes from rivers flowing in India and rain.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said- Ever since India has cancelled the Indus River Treaty, Pakistan has been trying to spread fear in the country. Pakistan says that what if China gives Brahmaputra? In reality, the water of the Brahmaputra river increases only in India. China contributes only 30-35 percent to the water flow of the Brahmaputra river and the remaining 65-70 percent of the water of the river is found in India only.

Himanta Biswa Sarma explained the reason for this and said, “The main source of water for the Brahmaputra river is the torrential rains in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam and Nagaland. Apart from this, many tributary rivers like Subansiri, Lohit, Kameng, Manas, Dhansiri, Jia Bharali, Kopili, Digaru and Kulsi join the Brahmaputra, which increases the water flow of the river.”
