New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) — For decades, mother’s milk and cow’s milk have been hailed as the healthiest sources of nutrition, but scientists have now made a surprising claim: cockroach milk might be even more nutritious.

Researchers studied the milk of a rare species of cockroach, Diploptera punctata, one of the few insects known to feed its young with milk-like secretions. The findings revealed that cockroach milk is rich in proteins, fats, sugars, and all nine essential amino acids — making it a complete nutritional package.

One of its standout features is that it is lactose-free, meaning people with milk allergies could potentially consume it. Experts suggest it could be the most nutrient-dense food on Earth. However, large-scale production is a challenge — it takes about 1,000 female cockroaches to produce just 100 grams of milk.

The research also found that 100 grams of cockroach milk contains around 700 calories — nearly three times that of regular cow’s milk. While its nutrient profile is impressive, scientists warn that overconsumption could lead to weight gain. As large-scale human testing has not yet been done, experts say it is too early to declare cockroach milk completely safe for regular consumption.
