Apart from Kerala, Maharashtra and Gujarat, a surge in COVID-19 cases has been witnessed in Delhi, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, where the number of infections has reached triple digits.

According to experts, the spread of Omicron's new sub-variant JN.1 has increased concern in the country, which was first found in Kerala. At the same time, it is now spreading to other states as well. This is increasing the infection rate. It is believed that this JN.1 variant of Corona is spreading faster than the rest of the earlier viruses, so the number of patients is increasing. ICMR Director General Dr. Rajiv Bahl had said that genome sequencing of samples taken from West and South India has shown that the new variants are not serious. The new variants include LF.7, XFG, JN.1 and NB.1.8.1.
