It now stands at 3,961.Dr. Rajeev Bahl, Director General of ICMR, stated that genome sequencing of samples from the western and southern parts of the country has confirmed the presence of new Omicron sub-variants. While these variants are currently causing mild symptoms, he stressed the need for vigilance.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has also listed the LF.7 and NB.1.8 variants as “under monitoring” until May 2025. These are believed to be driving case surges in China and other parts of Asia. As cases rise, health authorities have urged the public not to panic, but to remain alert. Basic precautions like wearing masks, hand hygiene, and avoiding crowded places are once again being advised.
