Cyclone ‘Ditwah’ emerges in Bay of Bengal after Senyar; warnings for heavy rainfall in multiple states

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Cyclone Senyar is weakening, but meanwhile another cyclone 'Ditwah' has formed in the Bay of Bengal. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that this storm could affect the coastal states of South India. According to IMD, the deep depression formed in the Bay of Bengal has turned into Cyclone Ditwah. Due to its effect, the weather is likely to deteriorate in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, South Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala.


The Meteorological Department has issued a pre-cyclone alert in view of this system. Heavy rains, strong winds and high waves are expected in many coastal areas till November 30. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. Cyclone Ditvaah may cause heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Light to moderate rains occurred in South Tamil Nadu on Friday, while rains are expected across Tamil Nadu on Saturday. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely in Thanjavur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Ranipet, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai.


The IMD has stated that the weather is likely to remain rough until November 30. Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the southwest Bay of Bengal, the Gulf of Mannar, the Comorin area, and the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast until December 1. Those already at sea have been asked to return to shore immediately.
