Deadly Storms Batter U.S.: 27 Killed, Over 6.6 Lakh Homes Lose Power

Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Several states in the United States have witnessed severe storms and tornadoes over the past 48 hours. So far, 27 people have lost their lives due to this disaster. The most affected states have been Kentucky, Missouri, and North Virginia.
According to the information received, 18 people died in Kentucky, 7 in Missouri, and 2 in North Virginia. Authorities fear that the death toll may rise further as rescue and relief operations are still ongoing. Due to the storm, by Saturday morning, the power supply to around 660,000 homes across 12 U.S. states had been disrupted. According to a report by PowerOutage.US, the power grid has suffered significant damage due to the storm.
During the storm, winds blew at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour, tearing off roofs and walls of many houses. Entire towns have turned into rubble, and thousands of people have been rendered homeless. In the affected areas, people are being sheltered in relief camps. According to experts, the storm transformed into a severe tornado due to its speed and intensity. As a result, states like Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Virginia, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Illinois have suffered heavy losses.
The only relief is that the current tornado system is gradually weakening, but there is a possibility of another severe storm forming near the Mexico border. It is feared that this could affect more than 20 million people in the southwestern parts of the U.S. Administrative agencies and relief teams have been placed on high alert. Rescue operations are continuing rapidly in the affected areas. Meanwhile, the weather department has advised citizens to remain alert for the next few days, as strong winds and heavy rainfall are still expected.
