India’s Naval Power Grows: Deadly Warship ‘Tamal’ to Be Launched Today

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Today is a historic day for the Indian Navy. In a grand ceremony held in Kaliningrad, Russia, the state-of-the-art stealth guided missile frigate INS Tamala was formally inducted into the Navy. On this occasion, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Naval Command Vice Admiral Sanjay J. Singh was present as the chief guest. Many top defense officials of India and Russia also attended the ceremony.
The name 'Tamal' is derived from Indian mythology, where it is believed to symbolize the sword of Indra, the king of gods. This warship will symbolise the strong defence cooperation between India and Russia as well as give new heights to India's maritime power in the Indian Ocean region.
This frigate, 125 meters long and weighing about 3,900 tons, will be deployed in the Arabian Sea and Western Indian Ocean region under the Western Naval Command. This area extends from the waters near Karachi to the western coast of India, which is very important from a strategic point of view.
INS Tamal comprises more than 26 per cent indigenous equipment, including state-of-the-art weapon systems such as the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. The BrahMos missile is capable of hitting both sea and land targets with extreme accuracy, making the warship's strike capability even more impressive. The inclusion of INS Tamal has significantly increased the strength of the Indian Navy. This warship will play an important role in monitoring and protecting India's maritime borders with its technological superiority, speed, firepower and stealth design.
