Delhi High Court Gets Boost with Six New Judges, CJ DK Upadhyay Administers Oath

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): 6 new judges were sworn in on Monday in the Delhi High Court. These include Justice V. Kameswara Rao, Justice Nitin Vasudev Sambre, Justice Vivek Chaudhary, Justice Anil Khetrapal, Justice Arun Monga and Justice Om Prakash Shukla. In the oath ceremony, Chief Justice of Delhi High Court DK Upadhyay administered the oath to all the new judges.

After this appointment, the number of judges in the Delhi High Court has increased to 40, while the total number of sanctioned posts is 60. All these judges have been transferred from other High Courts to the Delhi High Court after the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium and the approval of the Central Government. The most prominent name is that of Justice V. Kameswara Rao, who went to the Karnataka High Court in May 2024 and has now returned to his parent court, the Delhi High Court. He was made an additional judge of the Delhi High Court in April 2013 and a permanent judge in March 2015. Justice Anil Khetrapal has come from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He started practicing law in Chandigarh in 1988 and became a senior advocate in 2014. He was appointed an additional judge in July 2017.

Justice Arun Monga has been transferred from Rajasthan High Court. He took a law degree from Punjab University, Chandigarh and started practicing as an advocate in 1991. He came to Delhi in 1997-98 and became a judge in Punjab and Haryana High Court in October 2018. He was sent to Rajasthan High Court in November 2023. Justice Om Prakash Shukla has come from Allahabad High Court. He studied law from Lucknow University and enrolled with UP Bar Council in 2003. He practised in a variety of cases in Supreme Court, Allahabad and Delhi High Court. He became an additional judge in August 2022 and a permanent judge in March 2024. Justice Vivek Chaudhary has also come from Allahabad High Court. He took a law degree from Meerut University in 1988 and enrolled as an advocate in the same year. He became an additional judge in February 2017 and a permanent judge in March 2018.

Justice Nitin Vasudev Sambre has come from the Bombay High Court. He got a law degree from Nagpur University in 1992 and started practicing law the same year. In January 2014, he was made a judge of the Bombay High Court.
