DGCA Slams Air India: 4 Show Cause Notices Issued Over Safety Lapses After Ahmedabad Crash

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Nearly a month after the horrific plane crash in Ahmedabad, aviation regulator DGCA has tightened the screws on Air India. DGCA on Thursday issued four show cause notices to the airline. These notices have been sent on the allegations of serious lapses in the duty of the cabin crew, their rest hours, training and other operational procedures.
According to sources, these notices were issued on July 23, which are based on the reports voluntarily submitted by Air India on June 20 and 21. In these reports, the airline itself has admitted that security rules were violated during several flights in the last one year.
The notices issued by DGCA mention several serious lapses. According to the notice, Air India clearly violated the rules related to mandatory duty and rest hours for cabin crew in at least four very long haul international flights (ultra long haul flights). Apart from this, serious negligence was also committed in the training of the crew and the prescribed operating procedures in many other flights. DGCA also found that in some cases the provisions of mandatory weekly rest given to the crew members were also ignored, which is a serious threat to flight safety.
Confirming receipt of the notice, Air India said in a statement, "We have received notices sent by the regulator, which relate to our voluntary reporting over the past one year. We will respond to these within the stipulated time. Air India considers the safety of passengers and crew paramount."
It is worth noting that on June 12, 2025, an Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft flying from Ahmedabad to London collided with a building soon after takeoff. 260 people died tragically in that horrific accident. It is believed that since that accident, DGCA has been taking extra strict measures against Air India.
