‘Dirty Talk, Rasili Bhabhi, Charmasukh…’ Supreme Court Turns Strict on Obscene Content, Issues Tough Orders to Government

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Supreme Court on Thursday heard two cases related to social media content. The court said that someone must be held responsible for the adult content being uploaded online. It directed the Central Government to create regulations within four weeks, with laws as strict as those under the SC/ST Act.
The bench made this strong remark during a hearing related to a case involving India’s Got Latent, a show that sparked controversy due to its objectionable content and brought creators like Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina into the spotlight. During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said the issue was not just about obscenity but also about misuse. He added that freedom of speech is a valuable right, but it is being misused.
Chief Justice Surya Kant responded that this is the core problem. He said that if someone creates a personal channel, they can upload anything without accountability. In such situations, someone must take responsibility.
Justice Bagchi added that such content should come with a clear warning so that viewers are not disturbed. He said the warning should not just be for 18+ users, but for anyone watching. The CJI pointed out that a one-line warning that disappears instantly is ineffective. By the time people read it, it is gone.
He suggested that the warning should appear for at least two seconds and that platforms could consider verifying age through Aadhaar-like identification before playing the content. He clarified that this is only a suggestion, not a directive.
