New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Police have arrested Jyoti Soni, a co-accused who was absconding for a long time in the toxic cough syrup case that killed 22 children. Jyoti, the wife of accused doctor Praveen Soni, is accused of concealing evidence and aiding the crime. She ran a medical store in Parasia. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) took her into custody in Parasia on Monday.

According to DSP Jitendra Jat, Jyoti was hiding in Bengaluru and Varanasi during her escape. During this time, she even attempted to obtain anticipatory bail from the Jabalpur High Court. Upon receiving information, the SIT took action and apprehended her. The accused will be produced in court on Tuesday.

Doctor's wife arrested in Coldrif cough syrup case; 22 children died due to stock manipulation: The drug department's investigation revealed that Jyoti, along with pharmacist Saurabh Jain and New Apna Pharma's director Rajesh Soni, had manipulated the stock of poisonous cough syrup 'Coldrif' and hid many important details. The three had tried to destroy the evidence to save Dr. Praveen Soni. On this basis, the police had registered a case against the three. Saurabh and Rajesh have already been arrested, while now Jyoti is also in police custody.

Jyoti's arrest has sparked a debate in Parasia. Some say she surrendered voluntarily, while the police maintain that it was an arrest, not a surrender. The SIT will now try to find out who she contacted during her escape and what role she played in destroying evidence.
