Balrampur (The Uttam Hindu): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a major crackdown on Thursday against Changur alias Jalaluddin, the alleged mastermind behind a massive religious conversion racket. Around 20 ED teams simultaneously raided 14 locations linked to Changur and his close associates—Neetu alias Nasreen and Naveen alias Jamaluddin—in Madhpur and Uttaraula towns of Balrampur district. Two of the targeted premises were located in Mumbai, indicating the wide geographical reach of Changur’s network.

According to officials, 12 locations in Uttaraula alone were searched for evidence of illegal activities and financial irregularities. The ED’s action comes amid fresh threats reportedly issued by Changur’s disciples to victims of forced conversions. A case has already been registered against three such individuals who allegedly intimidated the victims for speaking to the media. Authorities have indicated that stringent action will follow against those trying to obstruct the investigation.

Jalaluddin, who was once a humble bicycle-riding preacher, has amassed immense wealth over the years. Arrested earlier by the Uttar Pradesh ATS, he is believed to have accumulated assets worth hundreds of crores not just in India but also in Gulf countries. His rising influence and network of operatives have raised serious concerns about the scale and funding of the conversion racket he led.
