New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out a major operation on Monday in connection with the Coldrif cough syrup case. Multiple locations linked to Tamil Nadu–based pharmaceutical company Srisan Pharma were raided. Notably, over 20 children have died in Madhya Pradesh after consuming the toxic syrup.

The raids were conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). According to officials, ED searched seven locations belonging to Srisan Pharma in Chennai. These included the residences and offices of senior officials from the Tamil Nadu Drug Control Office.

A few days earlier, Srisan Pharma’s owner, G. Ranganathan, was arrested. He is being questioned regarding irregularities in the production, quality testing, and distribution of the syrup. Last week, several children across districts in Madhya Pradesh fell ill after consuming Coldrif syrup. A government investigation later confirmed that the syrup contained high levels of toxic chemicals, leading the state government to impose a ban on its sale and distribution.

Currently, ED’s raids and interrogations are ongoing. The agency is trying to trace the supply chain of the chemicals used in manufacturing the contaminated syrup.
