Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde's former Twitter account was hacked this morning. Hackers shared posts featuring the flags of Pakistan and Turkey. All of these posts were deleted shortly afterward. Shinde's office stated that the technical team acted promptly and recovered the account. Currently, the account is functioning normally.

Cybercrime is on the rise in India. Every year, the country suffers losses of thousands of crores of rupees. Major incidents include the $230 million hacking of the WazirX crypto exchange in 2024, the BSNL data breach, and the 7.24 TB data leak from Star Health.


Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde's ex-account hacked, posts showing Pakistan and Turkey flags posted; stirred up uproar : The main targets of these cyber attacks are telecom, finance, healthcare and energy sectors. Experts have warned that AI-driven scams and ransomware attacks may increase further in 2025. The rise of digital transactions, misuse of Artificial Intelligence and international tensions (such as Pakistan-backed cyber groups) are the main reasons for these attacks.

To avoid cybercrime, it's important to remain vigilant. Avoid clicking on suspicious links, use strong passwords and if you become a victim of fraud, immediately call 1930 or file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.

The government has taken security measures through agencies like I4C and CERT-In but the public and especially politicians must remain vigilant. The security of social media accounts has become a serious priority. This isn't the first time a politician's social media account has been hacked. Previously, several politicians' accounts have been hacked. Therefore, it's crucial that politicians and their IT teams develop new strategies for digital security.
